PICA's Time-Based Art 2015 Lineup Announced

Reggie Watts' dance partner, an opera set designer who's obsessed with tiny model cities and a Japanese composer who favors cassette Walkmen are just a fraction of this year's Time-Based Art Festival.

PICA announced the program for its annual, 10-day fest, which will take over the city Sept. 10-20 with a mix of dance, visual arts, concerts, multimedia experiments and urban pop-up performances. Events will be held at The Redd, Ecotrust's new food-focused industrial hub on Southeast Salmon Street.

The lineup starts with a mystery performer TBA at Thursday's opening night at The Redd, then folk-crooner Holcombe Waller on the main stage and a sing-along with The Feminist Art Gallery on Friday. Other highlights of the fest include grand-scale art installations from Philippe Quesne, the larger-than-life comedy of Jibz Cameron in her Dynasty Handbag alter-ego persona and the usual Ten Tiny Dances. Yes, watching people try to perform on a 4-foot by 4-foot stage is still entertaining. And yes, there is always a drag show—this year it's Critical Mascara: A Post-Realness Drag Extravaganza from Pepper Pepper.

With a few internationally-born artists—from countries including Japan and Iran—this year's lineup stays relatively States-centric. Many of the artists hail from the Pacific Northwest (like one of WW's Funniest 5 Bri Pruett) or the usual hubs of L.A. and New York City.

The full lineup will be announced July 21 on PICA's website and the TBA:15 Guidebook comes out in August, but passes are available now. This year PICA added a $150 Enthusiast Pass that gets you unlimited access to late-night shows just like the Works Pass ($60) and adds six main-stage tickets. Full Patron Passes run up to $500.
