The Portland Timbers Are Major League Soccer Champions

Rose City never said die.

We won the league.

The Portland Timbers won their first Major League Soccer cup with a 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew in Ohio tonight.

The Timbers scored their first goal 27 seconds into the game, dodged beer cans chucked at them by Crew fans after Rodney Wallace headed in another score, then withstood bad luck and a frantic Columbus rally to secure the cup.

The first national championship in club history comes in its 40th season.

WW has written in recent weeks about how the Timbers got here, and what their improbable run means to the city.
