WEDNESDAY Dec. 23

[VIS ARTS] FAKE HOLIDAYS
Austrian photographer Reiner Riedler’s Fake Holidays takes us to tacky, ramshackle theme parks the world over. At the Frivoli Swinger Club in Vienna, Riedler shows us a stringy-haired man and his MILF-du-nuit reclining on a tiger-print rug—a horrifically painted beach scene behind them, shell-encrusted papier-mâché rocks standing in for a tropical grotto. Blue Sky, 122 NW 8th Ave., 225-0210. Closes Jan. 3.

[MUSIC] THE CHICHARONES
Warm up for Christmas with the help of the Chicharones, PDX’s most underrated live hip-hop act. Be sure to request “Straight Outta Noggin” and get the party jumpin’. Satyricon, 125 NW 6th Ave., 227-0999. 8 pm. Cover. All ages.

FRIDAY Dec. 25

[SCREEN] BROKEN EMBRACES
Pedro Almodóvar returns with a topless Penélope Cruz and ripe, succulent tomatoes. These scenes are not directly related. Or are they? Regal Fox Tower Stadium 10, 846 SW Park Ave., 221-3280. See page 47 for review. $10.50.

SATURDAY Dec. 26

[MUSIC] RED FANG
Poised to blow up in 2010, Red Fang the punishing sludge of rock makes for a nice post-Xmas treat. Doug Fir Lounge, 830 E Burnside St., 231-9663. 9 pm. $10. 21+.

[MUSIC] CLASSICAL REVOLUTION
Sure, J.S. Bach wrote a churchload of sacred music, but he also ran a band that played his tunes in a coffeehouse. So Classical Revolution’s third annual “Bachxing Day” ain’t that odd after all. Someday Lounge, 125 NW 5th Ave., 248-1030. 8 pm. $5. All ages.

[MUSIC] BEN DARWISH’S AFROBEAT TRIBUTE TO MICHAEL JACKSON
It’s still hard to believe that Jacko passed away this year, so celebrate his great songbook one more time before you never want to hear a cover of “Thriller” again. Goodfoot, 2845 SE Stark St., 239-9292. 9 pm. $10. 21+.

TUESDAY Dec. 29

[GENIUS] CHARLES PHOENIX RETRO HOLIDAY SLIDE SHOW
Charles Phoenix has a massive collection of slides from the 1950s and ’60s, purchased at flea markets and vintage shops across the land. He shows off the more Christmasy of them, with comedic commentary, in this one-man mid-century lecture. Hollywood Theatre, 4122 NE Sandy Blvd., 241-1802. 7 pm. $15. All ages.
