Cheap Eats 2009

This travel-themed diner is a welcome respite from the plastic sheen of the Pearl. Rest your elbows on its throwback soda counter or peruse the eclectic collection of salt and pepper shakers (relics from the days when this spot was called Shakers) while you wait on Mount Rushmore Hash ($7.75): a monumental mound of corned beef, onions and peppers, fried with potatoes and topped with melted cheese and an egg. Squint and you can see Lincoln in the runny yokes. The fluffy omelets ($7.95) are also winners, ideally washed down with a bottomless mug of Stumptown. Lunch is a solid assortment of burgers and sandwiches. (ES)
