Bar Guide 2015: Velo Cult

1969 NE 42nd Ave., 922-2012, velocult.com. 10 am-10 pm daily.

Surprise, surprise—the bicycle pub is in flux. After opening their immediately embraced Kickstand comedy space in the basement last year, Velo Cult has been forced by pesky zoning and fire codes to suspend its comedy showcases and workshops. And so the bar is now only again in the upstairs bike shop, which is so embedded in its community it may as well file for nonprofit status. Still, despite the massive assortment of bikes and gear, by midevening it just feels like a bar, complete with nice beer glasses, a long housemade bar and 12 craft beer taps. Someday soon you will be able to go downstairs and laugh. But for now, all the comedy is in the photo booth.
