23Hoyt Called One of America's Best by Esquire

New York's shower of golden praise for Portland dining continues. This time around, Esquire magazine has aimed its stream of accolades on Bruce Carey's 23Hoyt, which Esquire columnist John Mariani is calling one of America's 'Best Restaurants' of 2007. To celebrate, Executive Chef Chris Israel is hopping a plane to the Big Apple tomorrow where he'll don a Mario's tuxedo [fashion update: It's actually an ETRO suit and custom fitted Paul Smith shirt if you care about those kind of things] and attend a reception dinner on Monday at Anthos Restaurant in Midtown Manhattan.

A big congrats to Chris Israel, who has been wowing Portland diners on and off since he, Carey and Monique Siu debuted the seminal Zefiro in 1990 and forever changed the way we think about food.

Mariani is one of the country's top food writers.
