If you've got a few minutes to kill, the U.S. Census Bureau — in its never-ending battle
to count all of us — has this new map
that lets you slice and dice census participation rates so far.
A quick tour tells us the following three pieces of information as of today:
Oregon's 29 percent rate
matches the national rate, but is far below less procrastinating states like North Dakota (45 percent), South Dakota (43 percent) and Montana (42 percent).
Multnomah County's 28 percent rate
lags much smaller Oregon counties like Grant County (42 percent) in northeastern Oregon and Harney County (39 percent) in southeastern Oregon.
None of the nation's top-50 community return rates are in Oregon. Instead, they're in Midwestern states like Nebraska, Minnesota and Iowa — where some localities have returned their forms at rates topping 75 percent.
