Thermals Talk New Album with SPIN, Head to China

Thermals Jackpot_JQuigley 12SPIN Magazine posted one of their "In the Studio" features today, checking in with Portland's favorite pop-post-punk (TM) band the Thermals. Thermals frontman Hutch Harris is always a quote machine, as evidenced by this turnaround:

Do the Thermals have any pastimes in the studio?
We smoke a lot of weed.

But there's some more substantial information here as well. Turns out that Kathy Foster is stepping up her role as songwriter for the band, penning about half the album's songs, SPIN reports:

"Every time I sit down with a guitar I have the tendency to write the same song over and over," Harris tells SPIN.com. "Kathy's songs [have] given us more space."

The article is well worth a quick read. And don't forget to check out Jason Quigley's in-the-studio photo set with the band.

Kill Rock Stars also let us know that the Thermals are headed to China while the rest of us music-folk will be down in Austin for SXSW. Does that sound like an absolute disaster to anyone else? Careful with those tweets, Hutch! Here's the band's touring schedule for the next couple of months.
