Ndamukong Suh, who was a standout at Portland's Grant High School, has been selected as a finalist for the Heisman Trophy —awarded annually to the best player in college football. Suh is a senior defensive tackle at the University of Nebraska, where he anchored one of the top defenses in the nation.
Suh is considered a long shot to win the award because the Heisman has never been awarded to a player who played exclusively on defense. But Suh's selection as a finalist is an accomplishment in itself. He made a late surge into the competition by recording 4.5 sacks against Texas in the Big 12 Conference Championship Game.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart was also named a finalist, along with Alabama's Mark Ingram, Florida's Tim Tebow and Texas' Colt McCoy.
