Portland Paying off Poopy Mess with PGE

Call it a crappy situation: Portland's city government is set to pay Portland General Electric more than $7,000 for a stinky incident last spring. 


On the docket for this Wednesday’s City Council meeting is an ordinance to pay PGE $7,270 for a sewage spill on their property at the World Trade Center complex on June 6, 2012. 

A sewage pipe collapsed under Southwest Jefferson Street, causing waste to overflow and spill into “The Fit Factory”—the workout facility for PGE employees.

The electrical company filed a claim against the city for property damage and the cost of clean-up. The city plans to pay the claim in order to avoid a costlier payment if the claim went to court.
