The Portland Timbers won the first-ever Copa Verde on July 3 in a 1-0 friendly match against Mexican soccer club Monarcas Morelia. The reserve-heavy match was won with a penalty kick taken by veteran defender Futty Danso after a Monarcas handball, in the 39th minute.
