St. Mary's Academy, the all-girls school located downtown, completed its purchase of the former University Station post office block today.
The school, which began operations in 1859 and is the state's oldest continuously operating secondary school, paid $7.6 million for the property. The new acquisition is located at Southwest Sixth and Market streets.
WW first reported the transaction earlier this year.
“It seemed like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that property adjacent to the school would become available, so we’re very pleased to have been in a position to act,” said St. Mary’s Academy President Christina Friedhoff
in a statement. “The school has a bright and bold future, and to be ready to meet that vision, we will definitely benefit from additional space.”
The school has hired GBD Architects
to lead it through an assessment of how best to use the new property and to develop a design for its new use.
