Cut of the Day: "Make You Better," Summer Cannibals

'Twas a good year for Summer Cannibals. Not only did the grungy Portland garage rockers issue its own well-received debut album, it released another of 2013's most lauded records, Sun Angle's Diamond Junk, via its New Moss imprint. Dare I say the band is a strong Best New Band contender? Yes, I do.

The Cannibals aren't taking any rests, though. Next month, the group drops the Make It Better EP, and with the title track picks up where the full-length, No Makeup, left off, delivering a Pixieish mid-tempo stomper that erupts with big-time chords and a deceptively bittersweet chorus.

The limited-release cassette will be available at Summer Cannibals' show Jan.9 at Doug Fir Lounge with Kathy Foster and Maggie Vail's Hurry Up project and the Shaky Hands spinoff Spookies.
