The Oregonian will convert all print editions to a tabloid-style format by April, publisher N. Christian Anderson III announced this morning.

The format change—to 11-inch-by-15-inch, stapled vertical sections—means the newspaper's Metro section will be folded into its front-page section.

That has already become a regular practice in the smaller street editions The Oregonian prints on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays after cutting back home-delivery days.

"Today's readers want a more convenient and efficient way to consume the news that matters to them," Oregonian editor Peter Bhatia said today in a statement. "With the new compact format, we're presenting the same quality journalism in a smarter package."

The end of broadsheet printing comes almost a year after the paper moved to a digital-first model, laying off nearly a quarter of the newsroom.

The paper is currently looking to move out of its offices on Southwest Broadway to a new location in the Crown Plaza on Southwest 1st Avenue.
