As Portland Public Schools and the Portland Association of Teachers slide toward a strike, the district is advertising for replacements on Craigslist. The district and the union will meet today with a state mediator to try to head off would would be the first work stoppage in PPS history.

PPS Temporary Replacement Workers & Student Support Staff (Portland, Oregon)
Portland Public Schools has been notified by the Portland Association of Teachers (PAT) that it intends to strike beginning Thursday February 20, 2014. The District's highest priority is keeping schools open to continue to support students and families by providing a safe and secure environment.
Portland Public Schools (PPS) will operate schools with non-striking teachers, licensed administrators, classified employees and temporary replacement teachers.
PPS is seeking PK-12 Oregon licensed teachers and classified staff not presently employed who are willing to support students during this emergency. The District will pay temporary certified replacement workers $170.76 a day. PPS will guarantee five days of pay ($853.80), even if the strike lasts less than five days. In order to receive the five days of pay, you must begin work on the first day of strike and you must work each full day of the strike.
The District will pay student support staff $13.00 per hour. PPS will guarantee five days of pay ($520.00), even if the strike lasts less than five days. In order to receive the five days of pay, you must begin work on the first day of strike and you must work each full day (8 hours per day) of the strike.
The District will provide security for teachers and staff and maintain working conditions conducive to the safety and well-being of students.
