Portland's Best Dance Music Options, 2/28-3/5

1558459_10202479141675909_958888822_nJenö plays the Analog on Friday, Feb. 28 with DJ Ben, DJ Tracy, Chelsea Starr, Gutta and Subdrive, NYX, EDMT, and URKEL

In this column, WW music calendar and contributing writer Mitch Lillie helps the discerning club-goer put together their weekly calendar by compiling Portland's best dance-music options for the next seven days. Turn up, tune in, drop the bass.

— You may have heard of Thailand’s full moon party, an all-night beach rave popular with backpackers. Twenty years ago, an acid house DJ originally from the U.K., Jenö, started having full moon parties here in the U.S., right underneath the Golden Gate Bridge. Though he now plays at SF’s top venues and not with sand in his decks, his Wicked parties are just as legendary. Catch him Friday at the Analog. (9 pm, $12, 21+)

— There will be only one mystery on Friday at Refuge: Can the sound system handle South London dubstep duo Mala and Coki’s sub-bass? I2013’s “2 Much Chat” doesn’t nearly live up to mid-aughts classics like Mala’s “Bury The Bwoi” or Coki’s “Night” (I just went there, sorry), but these two are dubstep pioneers. Pay your respects by paying your admission to the dusty—but certainly still busy—Museum of Wobble. (9 pm, $12, 21+)

— Funky house can be tough to do right—balancing a four-on-the-floor genre with funk’s oft-complicated groove—but local producer and DJ Clay Watkins has it down pat. “Put That On,” recently released on Canada’s Caboose Records, is a jacking, vocal funk explosion. On Friday at the Rose’s Trifecta party, he’s joined by tech-house producer Mason Fisher and resident DJ Wiggles. (9 pm, $3, 21+)

— Just because it happens every month doesn’t mean it’s not worth recommending. Go and get your 2 Pac (or Biggie!) on at Booty Bassment, Saturday at Holocene. (9 pm, $10, 21+)
