Portland's Best Dance Music Options, July 3-9

bokbokBok Bok plays Rotture on Saturday with L-VIS 1990, Danny Corn, Ben Tactic and Graintable.
In this column, WW music calendar editor and contributing writer Mitch Lillie helps the discerning club-goer put together their weekly calendar by compiling Portland's best dance-music options for the next seven days. Turn up, tune in, drop the bass.

Friday is a holiday, so Thursday is either your new Friday or a night to celebrate getting paid time and a half. #Testify—I guess the hashtag is required—is Thursday at Holocene and in the spirit of the 4th is completely free. A wide collection of local DJs are spinning, including DJ E*Rock, Shy Girls DJs, New Dadz DJs and DJ Honest John. Expect the hip-hop to segue into harder four-on-the-floor and Jersey club as the night wears on. (9 pm, free, 21+)

Local trap etc. producer duo Deafmind have been causing quite a stir with a new remix or original dropped for free on SoundCloud every week. It’s all about big booties and big drops for these two—which is exactly as trap should be. Catch them on Thursday at Whiskey Bar. (10 pm, $5, ladies free, 21+)

For a more underground flair, newly-minted S1 warehouse is hosting Vancouver’s Nervous Operator’s cassette release on Thursday. This is dub techno so spacey and ambient it begs to be played on a tape player with a well-worn motor. (9 pm, $5, all ages)

I’m really nervous about the semantic and grammatical repercussions from the word “superduo,” but if I wasn’t I’d use it to describe the multifaceted collaboration between Miracles Club’s Rafael and Massacooramaan. So far it’s just been a few live sessions, as will be the case on Friday at Holocene, but pray for something recorded in the future: This shit is as modern as it gets. (9 pm, $3 before 10 pm, $5 after, 21+)

He made music, then he made a label, then he made a style. Now all Night Slugs boss Bok Bok needs in order to take over the world is an iTunes-friendly genre tag to match. Catch him on Saturday at Rotture. (9 pm, $12, 21+)
