Motorists may do well to stay in this Sunday morning, as an estimated 17,000 cyclists and walkers are expected to take part in the
2009 Providence Bridge Pedal.
Starting as early as 5:30 am on Aug. 9, most of the major Willamette River crossings will be closed or flooded with cyclists and walkers. And that means drivers should take the Morrison or Steel bridges, which will remain clear of cyclists and open for auto traffic.
The event offers three different
bike routes or a five-mile walk for those less inclined to cycle. Proceeds go to benefit the
Providence Heart and Vascular Institute as well as the
Bicycle Transportation Alliance.
