Today in Regional Michael Jackson Tributes

Vancouver-based Make-Up Artist Magazine honors the recently deceased king of pop with a story about the aritists who did Jackson's freaky faces in The Wiz, the short film Ghosts and the immortal video for Thriller, with "never-before-published" photos of the singer in those makeups. The issue hits street July 15.

Grass Hut is requesting art submissions for an awesome-looking Michael Jackson tribute zine.

Finally, and best of all, this month's episode of Portland Makes Music (this Sunday at Backspace) is all Jackson, all the time: a loose collection of some of our favorite local artists paying tribute to the King of Pop, and talking briefly about their relationship to his music. Confirmed guests include Grey Anne, the Rainy States, Congratulations, Leonard Mynx, Michael Dean Damron, Alan Singley, the Soft Tags, Gnomenclature, Jack Lewis, Gabe Hascall, and Dirty Mittens doing their favorite M.J. cuts. Backspace, 115 NW 5th Ave., 248-2900. 9 pm Sunday, July 12. Free. All ages.
