Slate bravely charts the "
stupidest bike lane in America"—a block-long dead-ender in Los Angeles.
Portland has about 170 miles of bike lanes, some of them stupid.

The Slate video is short and funny—unlike the City of Portland's four-and-a-half minute
training video for our new

Not only is the city's video way too long, it verges on the creepy—especially when the bike box pitchman, the inexplicable "Mr. Smooth," croons, "So smooth!" against a kitschy, '50s-sitcom-style soundtrack.
Portland could take some tips from Transport for London's brilliant bike-awareness video:
