Given the level of
turmoil among
Trail Blazers fans over last month's canning of general manager Kevin Pritchard, we're curious what you think about today's announcement that
Rich Cho will be
Portland's new general manager.
Feel free to opine in the comments section. But before you do, here are the basics about Cho: he's been the assistant GM for the Thunder (and the Sonics before they moved from Seattle to Oklahoma City). He was the Thunder's salary cap and player contract specialist, overseeing the renegotiated contract for Kevin Durant and keeping the league's top scorer in Oklahoma City for the next five years at around $14 million a year. Cho managed to do that while leaving the Thunder a decent amount of salary space to work with.
Here are a couple of other things we found noteworthy:
—Cho started with the Sonics in 1995 as an intern, which seems to be a
trend these days at least with the Blazers (As an intern here at WW, I applaud the trend.)
—Cho becomes the
first Asian-American GM of an NBA franchise.
—Cho holds a law degree from Pepperdine University, which has a reputation as a
very conservative place.
