When the Ace Hotel's annual pop-up shop Content started in 2009, there were only three—Project Runway Season 8 winner Gretchen Jones, artist Ada Meyer and local jewelry sweetheart Anna Korte.
Now it's a yearly event—the hotel turns its second floor into a retail shop and art gallery mash-up where local big names and lesser-known creatives tout their work.
This year will not only have more vendors (at least 28) across all genres—including Japanese-inspired textile designer Kiriko Made, WWJJD by design duo Joshua Buck and Jeanne Tunberg, and collaboration John Blasioli x Bridge & Burn—but the Ace is re-formatting the event too.
Downstairs, "The Cleaners" event space will be a pop-up (full list: Allison Ullmer Jewelry, Angel Thug, Topaz, DIGDOGDIG, Marty Jean, Service x Joanne Petit-Frere, A Girl Named Georges, Brady Lange, ALTAR, Goodsport, Shwood, Moonshadow Goods, Solabee, Machete, Katie Guinn, human noise, BLK RBN, ARA, Red+Co x Knowledge for Knowledge, MapleXO, Fieldwork Flowers, and Drip Ice Cream x Damien Gilley)…with cannabis-infused ice-cream from Drip.
Upstairs, artists designed individual hotel rooms as mini galleries that The Ace is calling "intimate installation dreamscapes." They promise tie-dye, pillow fights and a lil' wiener party.
"They're all forward thinking and a little bit wild," said Ace spokesperson Eileen Skyers. "We wanted to open up our rooms and hearts to a broader scope of Portland talent. It felt like the natural next step in Content's evolution."
GO: Content is at The Ace Hotel, 1022 Stark St., 7 pm Saturday, Nov. 14. $20.
