Watch the Thermals Open for Bernie Sanders at Moda Center

The pop-punk trio played an acoustic version of 2009's "Now We Can See."

Yesterday's Bernie Sanders rally at Moda Center had no shortage of highlights.

The Portland music scene, in particular, made a strong showing. Dandy Warhols' Zia McCabe gave the opening remarks, declaring her support for Sanders "as a woman, a mother and a feminist." In addition, long-running Portland pop-punk band the Thermals also played a song before the senator from Vermont began his speech, an acoustic rendition of "Now We Can See," the title track from the trio's 2009 album. Watch it here:

Of course, everyone ended up getting overshadowed by a damn house finch. But it's still pretty cool.

The Thermals' new album, We Disappear, is out now. It's good.

He is an advocate for the canonization of the Fishbone and Oingo Boingo discographies, believes pro-wrestling is a serious art form and roots for the Lakers. Fortunately, he left Portland for Tucson, Arizona, in 2021.
