April 26 Is the Last Day to Register to Vote in Oregon's May 17 Primary

Hey, late birds. Get it done!

You have been putting it off, kind of like you've been putting off a haircut, washing the dishes, calling your mom back and making a dentist appointment. You still haven't registered to vote. But guess what, friend. Unless you get yourself registered—and affiliated with the party whose primary you would like to vote in—all of your Facebook comments, side eyes at lawn signs and patriotic outfit choices will be for naught.

Because it turns out to take part in the political process in America, it takes a little more effort than a click on the ol' thumbs up button.

In Oregon, we have a closed primary system. That means that if you want to vote in the primary, which is May 17, you have to be affiliated with a political party. Did you register as a non-affiliated voter because, you know, fuck the system?

Well, the system is responding in kind.

Elections officials, however, wants you to participate. They have a ton of info on all kinds of circumstances and ways you can register to vote. The upshot is you have until tomorrow evening to register and you can go to oregonvotes.gov to register and to check your current affiliation.

Click on that link fool! Here it is again.

One more time, with feeling. Multnomah County says this about the deadlines: "Deadlines to register on April 26 are as follows: 5 pm at the Multnomah County Elections office, a USPS postmark of April 26 for mail submission or online registration at www.oregonvotes.gov by 11:59 pm on April 26."

You are part of democracy! Rock the vote, as they used to say. Still not convinced? Here's me, in eighth grade, begging you to vote. Don't let me down!
