Six Portland Public Schools to Get New Principals

Portland Public Schools won't appoint a new principal for Odyssey as it moves to East Sylvan.

Six of existing Portland Public Schools will have new leaders by next fall—while one new school won't have its own principal.

Roseway Heights K-8, Woodmere Elementary School, Grant High School, Beverly Cleary K-8, Rieke Elementary and Chief Joseph/Ockley Green all get new principals.

Hayhurst Elementary School and the Odyssey program have shared a building. Next fall the Odyssey gets its own building at East Sylvan, nearly four miles away, but will still share the same principal, Deanne Froehlich.

Ockley Green will open next fall as a middle school—the first step of the district's plan to divide eastside K-8's back into middle schools and elementary schools. The new principal there will be René Canler, who has served as principal of Woodmere Elementary for three years.
