THE BEDROOM HAS NO PLACE IN POLITICS
[Re: "Adams' Admission," WWire, Jan. 19, 2009:] I'd like to write in defense of all who hold public office and state that the bedroom should not have a place in politics. In this case especially, Mayor Sam Adams has a fantastic record of leadership and public service. He has hit the ground running with plans to reinvigorate the local economy and improve the dismal Portland high-school dropout rate. What he chooses to do in his personal life should have no place in our news. If he does something illegal, then make a news story out of it. Otherwise, this is just gossip. If I wanted that, I'd be reading OK! Clean it up please, WW.

COMPARED TO FOXWORTH...
So let me get this straight—Derrick Foxworth, by all accounts a good cop, gets publicly humiliated in the local media, demoted and shamed by holier-than-thou white liberal Tom Potter, and eventually takes an early retirement for having a totally consensual and age-appropriate sexual relationship with a coworker, which he never denies.

Sam has a consensual but possibly illegal sexual relationship with a kid he is mentoring who is half his age, publicly and forcefully lies about it and talks the kid into lying about it, makes all kinds of shady moves in an apparent attempt to cover it up, then admits he lied only when faced with irrefutable evidence of the truth. And the same white Portland liberals who stood by while Foxworth, who is black and a cop and carries a gun, gets shafted are now defending Adams and saying it's nobody's business because he's white and gay and likes bicycles and hates plastic bags.

Awesome. I mean that—I am truly filled with awe.

CONGRATS TO WW
I'm not sure how I feel about it all, but my compliments on another great job of reporting. It's amazing to think of what we wouldn't know without Willamette Week.

LIES, LIES, LIES
On the eve of such an important day in politics, this is just such a disgusting portrayal of what can go wrong when a person holds himself above the office he is trying to attain. I really could care less about the sex... I'm just pissed beyond words about the betrayal and lies. Desperately inexusable.
