ILLMACULATE ATTENTION MUCH DESERVED
Thank you for your profile of Portland's own Illmaculate in the March 4, 2009, issue ["Battle Star Illmaculate"]. The magnitude and character of his exploits have not only earned him considerable personal recognition, but also conferred a much-needed dose of global street cred upon this city and honored his community. His name belongs amongst those of Portland residents such as Chuck Palahniuk, Gus Van Sant, Brad Cloepfil, Brandon Roy, etc., as an example of our very best and brightest artists and most talented performers.
The story of Illmaculate's meteoric rise is a genuine inspiration inasmuch as it has taken place against the odds, absolutely on his own terms, and only by virtue of his own innate resources and determination. He has earned recognition and real respect by demonstrating to the world his rare and prodigious gift, and represented Portland admirably.
As your story attests, he is most at home in the cipher and his game consistently elevates to match and exceed the level of his competition, which is the hallmark of a professional and a true champion.

NOT FUNNY
The poll of Portland comics ["No Funny Business," WW, Feb. 25, 2009] for their dirtiest jokes was anything but funny. Although the most "controversial topics" were covered, it is hard to believe that a person with any kind of conscience would laugh at a joke about rape. Or suicide, or race, or abortion, for that matter. One out of every six American women have been the victims of an attempted or completed rape in their lifetime. Richard Bain and his jokes about having a right to make fun of rape is not funny, it is sick.

CORRECTION: Last week's story, "G.I. Crip," mistakenly reported Levell Peters' prior record. He was arrested on charges of assault, harassment, disorderly conduct, reckless driving and other misdemeanors, but he was not convicted of those charges. WW regrets the error.
