Bosko, The Good Life Movement (Self-released)
Packed to the brim with D’Angelo-style three-part harmonies and old-school funk riffs, L.A. via PDX superproducer/crooner Bosko is clever, dirty and a master of the talk box.

Dirty Projectors, Bitte Orca (Domino)
Though it isn’t released until June, Dirty Projector’s Bitte Orca is our early pick for AOTY, mixing Talking Heads-style funk with gorgeous vocal harmonies.

Lovers, I Am The West (Able Heart)
Our obsession with Portland’s own Lovers has gotten downright unhealthy. But this electro-pop masterpiece is moving and fun. Look for a review next week.

The Thermals, Now We Can See (Kill Rock Stars)
Now We Can See kinda creeps up on you with your third or fourth listen. Getting all melodic and smart, the Thermals managed to do introspective without losing bite.

John Vanderslice, Romanian Names (Dead Oceans)
The nicest man in indie rock is back with what might be his best record since 2004’s Cellar Door. It’s so nice to hear John singing about girls instead of 9/11!
