Bond, Bland Bond

"Agent 007…is actually a Whiskey man; he drinks 111 various types of Whiskey: 57 Bourbon Whiskeys, 47 Scotch Whiskeys...and 4 Old Fashions," reads the menu at Shaken Martini Lounge (4605 NE Fremont St., 282-4007). Give GM Andy Gainer a thumbs up for details. This Bond theme bar, located in the former shell of wine bar Vite, meticulously chronicles the spy icon's libation obsessions and trivia. The boite even pairs drinks to each actor who has played Bond (as well as the Bond girls). Sean Connery gets a big Smirnoff martini ($7, shaken, bien sûr); Daniel Craig scores the "OO," a wickedly smooth mix of Bombay Sapphire and Absolut Mandarin vodka spiked with soda ($9). George Lazenby is rightfully paired with an insipid bourbon cucumbertini topped with a cherry. It's all goofy fun, including the flat-screen TV playing a "Bond-tage" of the spy's cinematic hits. But nothing in Bond's mod world is ordinary, and for Shaken to become more than a one-time stop for fanboys, it needs to rethink its comfy wine bar decor and pump up the menu of dull flatbread and antipasti. Luckily, the management says Bond trivia nights are coming in 2010.
