Cut The Man Some Slack, Already

The toddler-esque attitude of the American citizen never ceases to amaze me ["Oba-Meh," WW, Jan. 20, 2010]. Perhaps John Bradach's statement, "He's missed his opportunity to change the country in the way he said he would," could be better expressed in the words of the 3-year-old who lives next door—"I want what I want and I want it NOOOOOOWWWWW!!!!" Worse, even a 3-year-old knows what the average voter apparently doesn't—President Obama has been in office for exactly one year. Did it take just one year to start two wars in two different nations? Did it take one year to run the economy into the ground, causing mass foreclosures and job loss? Did it take one year to bamboozle the American people to buying into a for-profit health insurance system that has left millions uninsured, using emergency rooms for routine office visits? Nope. Why is it, then, that the citizenry believes that one man can reverse decades of government disorganization and abuse, corruption, and capitalist-driven mayhem in just one year? It took eight years to ruin this country. What makes you think it will take any less than that to put it back to rights?

And by the way, the vote in Massachusetts is less an indication of views on Obama and more a footnote on the idiotic attitudes people take to the polls. Now—because of you Massachusetts!—we're even less likely to see real, meaningful change occur because you've given Republicans enough voices to continue doing what they've done for the last eight years—nothing good.
