Coming Attractions

The latest instance of a preview reel as its own feature, Jacques Boyreau's Trailer-Mania doesn't challenge Dan Halsted's Grindhouse Trailer Spectacular for obscure finds; most of these titles will be familiar to anybody who came of age to '80s American cinema. Instead, Boyreau's project (the usual disclaimer: Jacques and I run BAM Fest each spring) functions as an essay on advertising, or maybe more of a mixtape—watch him get from The Last Days of Disco to Boogie Nights to Wonderland in just three steps. Also a lot of fun: noting how every studio markets all coming-of-age fare (like Fast Times at Ridgemont High) by noting the female leads are "not exactly the girls next door!" Laurelhurst.

  1. Best paired with: Elysian ESB.
  2. Also showing: The Good, the Bad, the Weird (Laurelhurst).
