The Rogue Desk has been grappling with a grisly riddle: Why would a man tear the throat out of a living rabbit with his teeth? In the case of Darcy Lee Olson, the answer is shockingly stupid: publicity.

Olson, a 34-year-old Southeast Portland resident, had bought a rabbit for his boa constrictor, but the snake wouldn't eat it. That's when he came up with his not-so-bright idea: use the rabbit to spice up his stage persona, "Heathen," which he adopted for Superhero Action Show, a Satyricon-based pseudo-wrestling production formerly called Portland Organic Wrestling. After drinking heavily, he persuaded his housemate, Angela Lyn Moss, 24, to take promotional photos of him savaging the bunny.

Unfortunately, the reality was more gruesome than Moss had bargained for.

"The rabbit squealed in agony as Olson decapitated it for [Moss'] camera," according to a court affidavit. "Olson is pictured while rubbing rabbit blood on his genitalia and stuffing the headless body of the rabbit in his pants."

Not surprisingly, Olson thought better of his idea when the horror of what he'd done sank in. But months later, when Moss turned in her roll of film to be developed, a conscientious Fuji film employee alerted the police. As a result, the Multnomah County District Attorney's office is prosecuting Olson and Moss with two counts each of aggravated animal abuse. Both of them, who have a Sept. 5 court date, pleaded not guilty. But in Olson's case, at least, the pictures tell the tale.

The truth about Darcy & POW Darcy was fired in December '01, and there would not be any story whatsoever if the words "Portland Organic Wrestling" or "Superhero Action Show" were excised from the piece.We are currently seeking legal recourse in the matter. Hopefully--at least in my mind--we are going to sue the shit out of these fools.At the same time, I would like to again send my support to Darcy. I harbor absolutely no ill will towards him. Knowing Darcy, his actions (the rabbit thing AND mentioning us in any way) do not surprise me. I'm surprised that the WW would ruin our (hah) good name by not doing just ten minutes of research (i.e.: knowing that we fired Darcy). —Chad England, Portland Organic Wrestling

Rogue of the WeekDarcy Lee Olson Looking at the current post I would have to argree with,"Chad England, Portland Organic Wrestling" People like you are jumping on the bandwagon to trash this man. He has been an employee of mine for 7 years, and one of the nicest people you would know! Now he is getting death threats over a rabbit, that most newspaper's would make the statement (alledgely alive).Whether that is the case or not. Its not worth tearing a mans life apart for. For a rabbit that is sold in petstores to guess what? Have its neck grabbed by a snake, squeezed to death and swallowed. Now lets put all of the petstore owners in jail for animal abuse to rabbits, mice, rats and so forth. If this were a cat or dog I would feel differently. Sorry but I might be losing a very good employee over rabbit.By the way I know of an upscale NW. portland deli that carries rabbit meat. Thanks I hope I'm got my point accross —Ken Hillyard

I have seen more and more in recent years, how the wrestlers have had to spice up their acts by doing the most incredible stunts in order to keep their popularity, it is a pretty challenging and demanding profession ... most of these stunts however only risk bringing harm to themselves, but THIS ? This has gone way beyond the ' art of entertainment ' ! This is out and out cruelty, cruelty with intent towards another living creature ... and I do wonder how it must have shocked and effected the minds of especially the young captive audience as well ? These two individuals are sick in mind and action and I hope that you will do your best to ensure that the full force of your laws will be used in this case. You know, kids look up to these people, they become hero's ... they are as living comic book hero's to some and what they do sets an example to the young ones ! Darcy Lee Olson I am totally sickened and repulsed by this 'sorry excuse of a 'man'! His girlfriend is not any better than he is to watch this and not do anything to stop it! Guess they deserve each other! Indeed they both have 'sick' minds and need help..how anyone can do such a thing to any living animal is beyond me...be it a rabbit, cat, dog or other. They all have feelings...imagine the fear and pain this poor rabbit endured at the hands of this sicko monster! He wanted publicity...well, he got it and I do sooooooo hope his 'publicity stunt' lands him in prison for a very longggggggggg time, maybe then he will know the feelings of pain and terror when some of the inmates come after him! Same goes for his sicko girlfriend..prison! Our animal friends are gifts from God, to be loved and protected by us, not to be tortured in such a horrific manner!
