The Rats In The Walls

Ambrosia for connoisseurs of '70s big-beastie pictures, The Food of the Gods has the broad acting and menagerie fixation of the era's Disney pictures, except it's trying to be a horror movie. Seeing it now is a sort of corrective to the current cinema of mockery: Bert I. Gordon's work is proof that a movie can be bad in every measurable way, yet remain utterly commanding. Which is to say: Laugh at the giant rats swarming over the Winnebago, but you can't ignore the giant rats swarming over the Winnebago. Laurelhurst.

  1. Best paired with: New Belgium 1554 Enlightened Black Ale.
  2. Also showing: Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Academy, Kennedy School, Laurelhurst), Eat Pray Love (Academy, Bagdad, Laurelhurst).
