Cheap Eats 2005

Hidden in the hills above Northwest Portland, this old-time diner hasn't gotten the memo yet that some Portland eaters-high on something, surely-are willing to lay down a fiver for a simple grilled-cheese sandwich. The Skyline's grilled cheese? Just $2.95, as it should be. The menu's full of other affordable family faves, too, from the wee PB&J (also $2.95) to 6-inch burgers ($6.10). If those don't make the Skyline worth the drive (and the ATM fee, if you've left your cash at home), a milkshake or a malt ($2.25-$3) will do the trick. (MS)
