Cheap Eats 2005

The Stone may have added late-night hours (plus they've gone all upscale with an espresso and full bar), but rest assured, this Northwest Portland neighborhood classic has kept its corner-diner 'tude. It still has the same cheery red-and-yellow decor, the same cramped seating space, the same cheap, hearty breakfast and lunch plates, and don't-let-a-glass-go-empty service. A three-egg omelette ($7.95) still gets stuffed full of gooey Swiss and avocado (no short cuts, no microwaved bacon) while the avocado-topped burger ($6.95) is still grilled just right, its juices well-captured by the toasted sourdough.
