Cheap Eats 2005

As far as reputations go, Northeast Alberta Street's got the lock on "funky." Like it or not, lots of the shops and restaurants along this boulevard fit the bill-including Thai Noon. The approach to Thai cuisine is as reliably perky and colorful (try the peppered garlic dish with beef for a taste of guilt-free heaven, $6-$7.95) as the walls and decor here. A recent dip into this town's nightlife wading pool introduced Alberta-philes to the Mai Thai Lounge, home of enticing-and, dare we say it, funky-cocktails like the Thai Nooner ($4.50). (KBC)
