Cheap Eats 2009

This Italian bakery-cafe is bursting at the seams—with weekend dinner, last-Saturday-of-the-month zeppole (small sweet fried doughnuts, $1 for three), and daily Italian breads, pastries, sandwiches, tortas and Sicilian and Neopolitan pizza ($12-$25 pie, $2.50-$3.50 slice). You’ll burst at the seams too if you let go of your carb inhibitions and stay for a while. Coffee is cold-pressed, traditional sweets line the deli case, and if you stay up late enough you can see the night baker kneading and rolling out the next day’s sweet and savory treats. (LC)
