FLASHDANCE
Taking movie karaoke to its logical conclusion, the ’80s Movie Anthem Sing-Along cuts
out the pesky interruptions of dialogue and plot: It’s one long string
of synth-heavy bombast. Compiled by the Alamo Drafthouse, the reel is
incredibly comprehensive—Flashdance, Goonies, Short Circuit 2—though
most of the songs are not shown in their original context; instead,
they’re either the official music video or a newly assembled montage
from the film. So Jackson Browne’s “Somebody’s Baby” plays over Fast Times at Ridgemont High
scenes of Jennifer Jason Leigh uncomfortably being somebody’s baby,
then deciding not to have somebody’s baby. Still, you know: “Eye of the
Tiger,” everybody! Hollywood Theatre, 7:30 pm Tuesday, April
26.
- Best paired with: Lagunitas A Little Sumpin’ Sumpin’ Ale.
- Also showing: The Man With the Golden Gun (Laurelhurst).
