Whatever the mystery menace turns out to be in J.J. Abrams' Super 8,
I hope the director took some lessons from producer Steven Spielberg on
how to maximize the big reveal. Of all his abilities as a filmmaker,
patience is Spielberg's greatest virtue. He waited until damn near the
end of Jaws to show us the shark, and while he didn't take quite as long to give up the goods in Jurassic Park,
if you didn't gasp like Laura Dern at the sight of that first
brachiosaurus…well, then you didn't grow up obsessed with dinosaurs, and
I feel sorry for your childhood. PG-13. Academy.
