Shaun of the Dead has infected so many
imitators in seven years that the mention of Edgar Wright's genre-bender
almost summons a reflexive twinge of dislike. I'm actually pretty bored
by the zombie comedy, in the same way I'm bored by sandwiches stuffed
with french fries, even though I didn't know either could exist until
very recently. And yet: Who could tire of Bill Nighy and Penelope Wilton
as Shaun's exasperating parents, who cling so tightly to decency in the
face of a silly abyss? This is a new kind of movie, distinguished by
old-fashioned values. Academy.
