Beer Guide 2014: Golden Valley

Tanasbourne isn't where you'd expect to find a brewpub. It is, however, where you'd expect to find a chain restaurant. McMinnville's Golden Valley Brewery recently opened its second location in this Washington County suburb. You might recognize Golden Valley from the sensibly priced 22-ounce bottles in the beer section of your local supermarket. The brewpub adds a more refined, albeit somewhat incongruous, food accompaniment. You can order a burger, made with beef from the brewery's farm, served on olive ciabatta alongside the near table-length, curved wood taster "tray." The beers range from serviceable, like the location-specific Beaverton Blonde, to the fantastic Bald Peak IPA. Golden Valley offers a slew of regular-style beers but isn't afraid to experiment with the occasional smoky bock or coffee-flavored dunkel lager. JOHN LOCANTHI.

DRINK THIS: Bald Peak IPA. It'll put hair on your chest.
