Beer Guide 2014: Uptown Market

Uptown Market

6620 SW Scholls Ferry Road, Beaverton, 336-4783, uptownmarketpdx.com. 6 am-9 pm Monday-Thursday, 6 am-10 pm Friday, 7 am-10 pm Saturday, 7 am-7 pm Sunday.

After two years as the premier bottle shop-taproom west of Council Crest, Uptown is getting ambitious. First, the former convenience store added food-cart mainstays North Shore Bento and Maiale di Volo—wood-fired pizzas made by a friendly dude who'll bring your pie in when it's perfectly charred, and who is almost always on-site. The taplist is up to 18, with an evolving menu that builds as the shop gains stature. Uptown is now officially brewing, too, with an experimental list that includes a sessiony and inspired ESB. There are other plans in the works, including potential expansion. Uptown's stripped-down, serve-the-neighborhood-first ethics could become a thriving model for suburban breweries. JORDAN GREEN.

DRINK THIS: The ESB, though stick to sampling Uptown's brews before choosing them over the long guest-tap list.
