Will Success Spoil Portland?

The city’s movie renaissance could continue this fall—if we don’t jump the piranha.

At the risk of jinxing everything, I think it’s safe to say Portland has cracked the movie game. It’s now possible to write a fall preview exclusively about movies with an Oregon connection. But with this sensation comes peril. Portland is the new, popular kid on the film scene, but we’re still fresh enough that one embarrassing slip-up could define us for years to come. (It took us nearly a decade to recover from Mr. Holland’s Opus. Never forget.) The following eight movies could rocket us into the stratosphere. Or they could ruin everything. Keep your fingers crossed.

Not to be trivial here, but this guy (and I'm speaking from personal experience)

is extremely overrated. He is a sycophantic opportunist, who is so self-absorbed

that he never gives credit where credit is due to his hard working collaborators. Yes the Auteur did well at Tribeca, but James has completely shat on those who helped make that film a success there, and claimed all "reward" for himself.

He is a pot-addicted, inept slacker who occassionally stumbles into the good nature

and intentions of others, and then takes the ball and runs with it while yelling "screw you all" with a backhanded wave and attitude.

Maybe "chihuanas" will be a good film (but come on, already proclaiming it "self-evidently the best movie ever made in Portland"?!), and if it is, then hopefully James will experience first-hand the treatment he gave to those involved with HIS films... complete unrecognition, and a big "you've done your job and now I'm done with you" attitude, which should make ANYone think twice before even acknowledging him as a professional.
