Less than two weeks after a group of gay men reported being attacked on Southwest Stark Street
, Portland police are reporting another alleged bias crime:
Here's this afternoon's news release from the Police Bureau about the attack last night, and the five people who were arrested:
On Thursday, June 10, 2010, at approximately 8:15 p.m., Portland Police Officers responded to an assault call in the 600 Block of SW 11th Avenue. The responding officer made contact with a victim who stated that he had been assaulted. The victim provided officers with descriptions of the suspects involved and an apartment location of where the assault had occurred. The victim told police that he knew the subjects that had assaulted him and that they had also used anti-gay slurs against him.
The suspects were located in the 1100 Block of SW 11th Avenue and were interviewed by Detectives. Detectives do not believe that this was a stranger on stranger assault. The five suspects were charged with one count of Kidnap in the First Degree, Robbery in the Second Degree, Assault in the third Degree, Intimidation in the First Degree, and Coercion. The suspects arrested are: Timothy Hill, (DOB 01-17-89), Marcos Antonio Torres, (DOB 01-26-92), Ashley Maro, (DOB 01-24-90), Michael Anthony Valero, (DOB 01-11-80), and Missy Lee Dempsey, (DOB 12-06-91).
