And we're off!
After a clamor of handclaps and a countdown that could be heard all the way from the food court, the Apple store re-opened with great ceremony at 6:00 PM to start hawking iPhones. Mall security and a handful of Rent-A-Cops had the whole area on lockdown, steering gawking teens out of the crucial flow area and only allowing in a handful of people at a time.
When surveyed, it became apparent that most of the people waiting in line intended to buy two iPhones (a sizable chunk of change) in order to sell the extra one to someone unwilling to stomach the day-long wait in line.
Apple employees applauded the first customers into the store, then set to the business of directing the eager Mac geeks to the cash register, ringing up overflow customers with hand-held credit card machines. The phones were pre-packaged in shrink-wrapped black boxes and popped into special black bags.
The store will be open until midnight tonight in order to cater to the rush.
