Use of Force by the Numbers, No. 1

WW analyzed a Portland Police Bureau database tracking the department's use of force, which we obtained under public records laws. It contains more than 8,500 reports from a roughly two and half year period.

1241: the number of suspects reported injured

416: the number of officers reported injured

(Police say the figures may not be accurate because their forms don't track suspects who are injured before police used force against them.)
