One of the Portland cops involved in the 2006 death of James Chasse Jr. was involved over the weekend in a road-rage incident in Washington County.

Portland police have opened an internal investigation in the incident, which cops say occurred when Sgt. Kyle Nice was off-duty on Saturday afternoon.

Police here found out about the incident at Southwest 80th and Oleson over the weekend. But they did not put out a news release until this afternoon, after media started inquiring about it, said Detective Mary Wheat, a police spokeswoman.

No arrests were made in the incident, which happened at 2:47 pm. A report (PDF) by Washington County Sheriff's Deputy James Bieker says Nice drew his gun on a driver of a red BMW who Nice said almost hit his car. Nice told Bieker his infant child was inside the car at the time.

Nice last made the news in January, when Central Precinct Officer Tom Brennan wrote to city commissioners and the media warning that Nice had behaved erratically during a confrontation with homeless street musicians. Brennan is now under investigation for lying and has been exiled to working the police property room.
