The first Portland Folk Festival has just announced its preliminary lineup — a healthy mix of local and international artists, who will be appearing in spaces throughout Downtown, Alberta, Mississippi and Southeast Portland from August 19-22.
Most local folk fans will probably be familiar with names like Loch Lomond, the Freak Mountain Ramblers and Future Historians, but there are a few less conventional acts in the program who are also of note. Some of my favorites:
Celso Machado, Thomas Mapfumo, Dan Bern, Jim Page, Oz Street Fossils, Caleb Klauder Country Band, Jackstraw, Mary Flower, Loch Lomond, Sea of Bees, Louis Ledford, Myshkin's Ruby Warblers, The Lower 48, Yoyodyne, Colin McGrath, Brian Cutean, Mamadou Thioub, Cardboard Songsters, Anne Weiss, Geoff Berner, Billy Kennedy & Tim Acott, Freak Mountain Ramblers, Stag Hare, Yarn Owl, Winterhaven, Ezza Rose, Future Historians, Johnny and Jason, Earl White Band.
As well as music, the festival will also offer art, craft, film, educational workshops and talks, and a $45 ticket will get you into every show and event.
The complete lineup and schedule will be announced on July 1.
