Late last week Filter Magazine
reported that Modest Mouse leadman Isaac Brock has brought guitarist Johnny Marr of the Smith's on as a full-time member, officially turning Modest Mouse. As anyone who reads Willamette Week
knows, Marr has been helping the band with its upcoming release, We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank. But Brock has never regarded him as a full-time member until now. Filter
quoted Brock as saying that Marr is "not pretty much. He's a full blown member of the band. It's really fuckin' nice."
With Marr's Mancunian blood in the mix, Modest Mouse will have a new international flavor, perhaps making the purveyors of rockin' discontent more appealing to the Pink Martini crowd. Maybe not.
No reports on whether Decemberists leadman, and Smith's freak Colin Meloy has attempted to kidnap Marr from Brock, but being that Meloy is more of a Morrissey guy we think Marr is safe. Now, if Meloy could get the big M to move to Portland and join the Decemberists, that would be killer. I can see it now.
