Anyone who doubted Viva Voce signing to Seattle's Barsuk Records (okay, I know that no one did, but stick with me, we'll get past this lead together) is wearing an egg mask now. With the reputable label behind it, the band has been gaining a lot of advanced attention, a.k.a. hype, for it's upcoming Sept. 12 release,
Get Yr Blood Sucked Out. The band has managed to get quite a favorable track review of "We Do Not Fuck Around" on
Pitchfork and here on
Local Cut. Now the vehicle for Kevin and Anita Robinson is getting more digital ink, this time from Spin's website, which has leaked (whoops!) the first video from the Portland band's third release. The song is "The Devil Himself" and the video is a narrative loosely based on John Lennon and Yoko Ono's infamous bedroom interview. Where it goes from there, you'll just have to see.
The song, a strummy number, is one of the album's more pop-oriented tracks. The rest of the album, though, falls much more on the psych side of the fence. It will be interesting to see if fans embrace what is a much more complex sound than that found on the duo's last release
The Heat Will Melt Your Brain. But the band is doing it right by pulling them in with this track.
A couple disclaimers here: 1. I am actually in this video, which was filmed at the Monarch Hotel in Clackamas during a gruelling 14 hours shoot. Fortunately I was cropped out of just about every shot. 2. I sometimes contribute to
Spin.
Okay, check out the video
